British National Series round 4

Published on 27th June, 2009

Crow Hill was the venue used last year for the National Championships but this years course had been redesigned. It’s a pretty unique course, there is little height difference throughout the lap but nevertheless it proved to be a challenging race course and good preparation for the European Championship which are in the ‘non mountainous’ country of Holland in 2 weeks’ time. The last time I raced in Holland it was also the European Champs in 2000 and I was a Junior.

The Elite race at Crow Hill was 7 laps-nearly 50km off road, that’s got to be a good workout both physically and mentally… you really had to be on the ball and focus all the time. With about 90% of the course being fast and technical singletrack I decided to sit in for the first couple of laps and get a feel for the course, Robin Seymour led for the first lap and then Lee Williams took up the pace. I was impressed with Lee’s riding in the early laps, it’s good to see him developing.

I managed to ride away from the others and rode solo for the last 3 or 4 laps taking the win, interesting to see England, Ireland and Wales on the podium!
