World Cup 3 Madrid
Published on 24th May, 2009It feels good to be back racing at International level. I had to miss two rounds of the World Cup, Offenburg and Houfalize, due to injury. As always in Madrid, the start was tough and explosive, I was gridded mid pack but managed to move up through the field in lap 2. The Madrid course is super fast and demands many short, hard efforts to get up the multiple steep climbs. I eventually climbed to 19th place.
British Series round 3. It was fun to be back racing at Margam Park, the last time I raced here was in 2004 before the Athens Olympics. The course was similar, lots of tough climbing interspersed with twisty singletrack and a couple of river crossings. During lap 1 the leading group formed- it included Oli, Lee Williams and Ian Bibby and me. By lap 2 it was Oli and me together, we both rode hard for a few laps but eventually I managed to shake him off on the last lap to score my first win of 2009. It's great to be back on a podium. June is a fairly quiet month, it will be an ideal time to get some longer rides done- hopefully under blue sunny skies!
Keep rollin’
Liam
