Winterthur Racer Cup: Good news!
Published on 21st June, 2009I’ve been feeling strong during training recently. It’s been quite a relief after a winter of back injury that has disrupted training and competition.
Some of the GB National team riders were heading out to Switzerland for the Racer Cup in Winterthur. I tagged along so I could do a quality race and get a tough workout.
The Swiss course was tough- they usually are in Switzerland… not super long or technical but steep and made a bit tricky by some mid race rain.
There is usually a strong field for the Swiss races, a few Swiss riders were missing this time , perhaps due to their National Champs being earlier than other Nations but Julien Absalon and some other World Cup riders were racing.
I made the initial selection fairly comfortably on lap 1. Julien, Moritz Milatz and myself set a good tempo and pulled away from the others. All was going well for the first 4 laps, then a rain shower or two… not much rain but it did make the hard, grassy sections very slick – it’s hard to find a tire that can cope with those conditions so I rode pretty cautiously and lost some time to the other two. During the last 2 laps the course started to dry out and I gained some time but couldn’t quite get back to them.
1st Absalon=2 01:58:14
2nd Milatz @ 23secs
3rd Killeen @ 34secs
4th Inaki Lejarreta Errasti @ 2:38mins
Keep rollin’
