European Mountain Bike Championships: Zoetermeer, Holland

Great Britain 6th place @ 2.10min.
Riders: Liam Killeen (elite), Kenta Gallagher (junior), Annie Last (women), David Fletcher (U23).
GB were gridded 3rd row (16th Nation). A solid performance by each rider and an improvement on previous years relay results, there is exciting potential.
Sunday 12th July.
Elite XC: 10th place @ 5.58min.
Rain throughout the day made the course very muddy. Riders were forced to run many sections of the course during each of the 8 laps.
A top 10 result was satisfactory. I’d felt good during the week leading up to the Euros but hadn’t prepared for any significant amounts of running - even though I do like to run a little during the off season!
One good thing was even though it was very wet is was not a cold day. I think every rider probably had some kind of mechanical or problem, conditions were harsh for equipment -and riders. One lap it would be raining and the mud would be thin making riding slightly easier, then it would dry a little and turn to peanut butter - very sticky and clogging the bike to a stand still…
